We’re quickly approaching the New Year and with it comes a sense of joy, renewal and happiness. If you are searching for ways to become a better you, I recommend creating some simple and meaningful New Year’s resolutions to help keep your goals on track in 2018. How can you be sure to follow through with your plans? Keep reading for my advice.
3 Steps to Forming New Year’s Resolutions
- Determine Your Goal
Are you creating New Year’s resolutions because you feel like you have to, or because you want to? As Spire&Co explains, “The point isn’t what you’re making your New Year’s resolutions. It’s about who you’re making them for and why you’re making them. When we simply write out a list of the things we think we should do and don’t really and truly want for ourselves, we seldom experience success. A feeling of obligation towards resolutions from the outside world rarely breeds positive, sustainable change.” Believe it or not, it’s okay to skip resolutions if you don’t feel like they’ll add value to your life.
- Aim to Better Yourself by Helping Others
While goals like eating healthier and exercising more are great, are they helping others or helping yourself? While both are beneficial, I recommend self-betterment through helping others succeed as it’s much more fruitful. Give a stranger a compliment, hold the door open for the next person and pause to let pedestrians cross the street. What you give out into the universe will return to you in kind.
- Enlist the Help of a Friend
Forming New Year’s resolutions with a friend is one way to help ensure you both stay on track and commit to manageable goals. Let your loved one know what you want to work on next year and encourage them to help you out by keeping you honest and accountable. It may even bring you closer together!
I wish you all the best of health, wellness and happiness in the coming year. What are your New Year’s resolutions for 2018 and how do you plan to keep them? Please share in the comments below!
